While businesses continue to add social media sites such as Facebook and Google+ to their infrastructure, a recent survey from Siegel+Gale found confusing privacy policies are leaving users unsure of what they are agreeing to.

The survey found 36 percent of Facebook respondents and 37 percent of Google respondents, after reviewing the relevant policies, said they would change their online behavior by using these sites less, adjusting their privacy settings and erasing their search histories.

“Respondents thanked us for conducting this survey and clarifying the content of the privacy policies to them,” said Thomas Mueller, global director of customer experience of Siegel+Gale. “People want to know how their personal information is being collected, stored and used.”

Alarming statistics from the survey showed only 15 percent of Facebook users know what happens to their account after they have deleted it, while only 23 percent know their Google profile is available for anyone to see on the internet.

With all of this confusion surrounding the social media realm, companies can assuage some of their worries by investing in the right business insurance plans.
