Summer is a common a time for the business world to slow down, as many top executives are out of the office for multiple days, relaxing on vacation. However, this simply isn’t a reality for small business owners, as 60 percent said they are working more this year than they did in 2011, according to a recent survey conducted by Manta.
For the brave small business owners that are going vacation, seven out of 10 respondents said they will stay in touch with people in the office while on their trips.
“As a small business owner, I don’t have the luxury to ever really shut off from my business,” said Terry Benton, owner of Louisiana-based Terry’s Fabric Cottage. “While it can sometimes be a double-edged sword, my mobile device allows me to stay connected so I can enjoy time away from the office.”
Business applications and smartphones are believed to make life easier for small business owners who are away from the office. Sixty percent of respondents said they can relax more on vacation due to these innovations in technology. However, the increased reliance on smartphones demonstrates the need for business owners to invest in cyberliability insurance policies.
