Many businesses throughout the United States have found that healthier employees leads to more productivity, which is why a growing number of employers are offering wellness programs, according to recent research from a global insurance company.

“Wellness programs continue to evolve and it is encouraging to see more organizations initiate programs despite economic pressures and continuing challenges in accurately measuring outcomes and results,” said Jennifer Price, senior health outcomes consultant for a global insurance broker.

The survey found 60 percent of respondents have a wellness program in place, and 58 percent of businesses with plan in place are working on ways to add to their programs.

According to the study, the most popular types of wellness programs include physical-activity programs, tobacco-cessation programs, and weight management programs, respectively. Employers are also finding that work/life balance programs are a worthy investment for their companies.

While these plans help employees improve their lives and remain successful in the workplace, there are some potential legal problems businesses can run into. By purchasing the necessary business insurance policies, employers will have protection from any legal issues they can encounter with their wellness programs.
