A recent report conducted by CDW Government LLC found federal employees are relying upon mobile devices to help them become more productive in the workplace, with more than 50 percent of federal employees using at least one mobile device while working.

“Mobility is the ‘new normal’ for federal employees,” said Bob Kirby, vice president of federal government for CDW-G. “Employees increasingly expect to be able to work anywhere and at any time. Agencies responded first by deploying mobile devices, and now they are enabling use of personal devices.

The Federal Mobility Report also found 99 percent of surveyed Federal IT professionals have given mobile devices to their workforce, with 62 percent using their personal mobile devices for work purposes.

With this increased mobility in the workforce, organizations like federal agencies that deal with sensitive data would be well-advised to secure a professional liability insurance policy that include cyberliability coverage, to protect them from the fallout of cybercrime.

Research In Motion, the company that makes BlackBerry smartphones, recently announced that its new BlackBerry 7 and BlackBerry 7.1 operating systems were awarded the FIPS 140-2 certification, which is the the security requirement mandated by the federal government to ensure security for federal employees, reported InformationWeek.
