An ex-employee recently filed a lawsuit against the Fair Oaks Dairy Farm located in Fair Oaks, Indiana.
The female plaintiff claims the farm created a hostile working environment when it allowed a male manager to continually sexually harass her. The ex-worker filed the suit on Friday, July 22.
In her suit, the plaintiff alleges her male manager exposed himself on a number of occasions and acted in sexually suggestive ways that made her uncomfortable, dating back as far as July 2009.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the lawsuit on behalf of the worker after failing to reach a settlement with the farm.
Now, the commission is seeking monetary damages for the plaintiff and an injunction against the farm from engaging in any further actions.
The lawsuit highlights the importance of practicing and enforcing legal actions and maintaining a civil working environment. Failure to do so can land a business in expensive lawsuits. For smaller companies that might not have adequate business insurance coverage for legal fees, such an occurrence can be crippling.
