More than ever, businesses are sending critical data over email, and the last thing they need are for their emails to be subject to a cyberattack. Recent research from PhoneFactor, a provider of phone-based multi-factor authentication, showed businesses need to step up their security with 80 percent of respondents saying they only protect email with usernames and passwords.

The lack of security businesses are employing for their email services also showcases the need for cyberliability insurance, which can protect businesses against computer hackers and data breaches.

According to the survey, 73 percent of respondents claim the data they share over email is highly sensitive, but at the same time 74 percent lack confidence in their security precautions with respondents saying they all either “not at all confident” or only “somewhat confident” that their existing security is adequate.

“Our attorneys and staff use both company issued and their own devices to access a wealth of information via remote access VPN and Citrix XenApp, including company email,” said security engineer Bob Morrison. “They know that it would be extremely difficult to gain credibility if any customer information was inadvertently intercepted, and are happy to use PhoneFactor’s simple solution.”
