At the Gartner Security and Risk Management Summit, which was held in Sydney, ZDNet reported on how leaders at the company believe security roles need to change in the business world.
In his address, Paul Proctor, the vice president of research at Gartner, elaborated on how security professionals need to be more aware of business practices because they are the some of the industry’s feature leaders, according to the website.
Proctor went on to talk about how security initiatives need to be less reactive, which will allow for fewer business initiatives to be dropped because they were deemed too risky, said the website.
“It’s not IT’s job to determine how much protection is necessary,” Rob McMillan, research director at Gartner, explained later at the summit. “This can be a shock to many traditional security practitioners, but we have to evolve. This can’t be achieved by operating in traditional silos.”
Business risks continue to be a concern for companies around the world, which is why they need to amp up their security through the necessary business insurance policies.
