Storms throughout Wisconsin have already caused damage to homes, businesses and farms, and there aren’t signs it’s going to lighten up. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said that these storms, which have already produced tornadoes, will continue until June 25.
The storms have produced nickel-sized hail, and strong winds have knocked down a few trees in the Milwaukee area. Almost 9,000 people were without power when the storm occurred on June 17. Sandy Rusch Walton, spokesperson for the Milwaukee Department of Public Works, urges residents to be careful when stepping outside.
“When the storm is over – when it’s safe to be back outside – neighbors should be careful not to push their tree trimmings on top of a sewer grate and keep those open,” Walton told the Sentinel. “Our crews will be out there, too, removing what we can.”
The storms have done a number on properties, as American Family Insurance, per the Wisconsin State Journal, reported that there have been 338 insurance claims for property damage through June 19. That is a small portion of the possible claims, as the Journal believes that number could reach 1,500 after residents of Verona, Platteville and Madison are accounted for. It could be some time before American Family has a hard number of how many claims there are.
Storms like this could present dangers for residents. Fallen trees can block roadways, downed power lines can seriously injure someone and homes and businesses can be damaged.
A business that is damaged by hail and water will have a number of repairs on its hands. To help out in this situation, shop owners can sign up for business insurance. This coverage can financially help business owners out in these storm situations.
